Better Sleep

3 things I love for better sleep

Let’s face it, if you’re not getting good quality sleep your life is going to suffer. Sleep is one of the most important things for our optimal health and well-being. Without good quality, deep restful sleep we tend to crave more carbs, wrestle with unpleasant moods and sacrifice our best energy to do the things we love.

Midlife is especially a time when deep restorative sleep becomes so much more important to our health and wellness.

Today, I'm sharing 3 things I love for better quality sleep:

1. Magnesium. Most of us are deficient in magnesium. This essential mineral is needed for over 300 metabolic processes in the body —including heart health, blood sugar regulation and bone health. Magnesium is less abundant in our soils than it was years ago. If you have trouble sleeping you might consider adding a magnesium supplement to your nightly routine. I personally take a buffered magnesium glycinate formula by Designs for Health each night before bed. This high performance chelated product helps to calm the nervous system and support a more relaxing night’s rest.

2. Cortisol Manager: If you’ve got STRESS, chances are you’ve got high amounts of cortisol too! Cortisol does have some positive attributes and is needed by the body, although high amounts circulating over time can lead to inflammation, unwanted weight gain and many sleepless nights. Cortisol Manager by Integrative Therapeutics is a formula I personally love and recommend to my clients for a better night’s sleep. This natural healing supplement is made from Ashwagandha, L-theanine and calming flower essences like magnolia. It's also non-addictive.

3. Serenity by doTERRA: This is an amazing, beautiful smelling, soothing essential oil made by my favorite essential oil company dōTERRA. Serenity is a blend of lavender, chamomile and vanilla designed to relax and heal the body and mind. Consider putting 1-3 drops on each foot nightly. Rub in and voila you are gently transported into “LA LA Spa Land” to experience deep relaxation and bliss. Great for kids, teens and adults.

As you lay your head on your pillow each night, remember to take a few deep breaths and focus on all the beauty and blessings in your life. AND, consider doing a “brain dump”—where you literally dump all that crazy stuff floating around in your head on a piece of paper. This allows the mind to rest in a more peaceful, relaxing manner.

To your serene bliss!

Love,
Marlyn
